Problem
When you copy a Visio shape from one file to another or even from one sheet to another, the copied shape loses the original formatting.
Solution
This can occur when Visio automatically applies the current them to the new instance of the shape. When this occurs:
1) Right-click on the pasted shape
2) Point to Format, and then
3) Select Remove Theme.
The original formatting will return.

I'm so grateful for this answer. You the real MVP Thanks.
Worked great! thanks for the tip!
This did not work for me. Apparently there are not preset themes in my destination drawing whereas the source drawing has beautiful default theme whcih I used to create a drawing, but now not able to move this to the destination drawing without losing the theme. I am on Visio 2016!
